Sam is co-owner and President of Bernard & Associates, P.C. his Chattanooga-based private practice and consulting firm focusing on various forms of trauma and crisis intervention and disaster menta/behavioral health. He is a founding member and President of the Board of Directors for the PAR Foundation, a registered non-profit that provides preparation, assessment and response for various psychological crisis. He provides individual and group therapy, employee assistance program (EAP) services, psychological autopsies, organizational consultations, trainings and public speaking concerning various psychological crisis, disaster mental health and suicide locally, nationally and internationally.

Personal: Married; Native of Kingsport, TN; Only child; Home in Chattanooga, TN; Licensed private pilot; People-To-People High School Student Ambassador 1980 and 1981 – visited Austria, Germany, Italy, Greece, Yugoslavia in 1980 with homestays in Austria, Germany, and Greece, then France, Egypt, Israel, China and Japan in 1981with homestays in France and Japan; Survivor of an aviation incident in Karachi, Pakistan while serving as a People-To-People High School Ambassador in 1981; Caregiver for both his mother (lung cancer with brain metasticies) and father (normal aging) during their last years. Pet therapy with “Buddy” (petit sheltie) until his death in 2010.
